fuck em, i'm gonna cook veggies WITH the rice, for example.. when i cook a pot of rice, i add the rice to the boiling water and bring it back to a boil, stirring.. when it returns to a boil, i add veggies on top of the rice, such as broccoli and carrots and mushrooms and such, then cover and reduce to simmer and like magic, i have perfectly cooked rice with steamed vegetables on top in 20 minutes!!

Sounds like you can cook decent boiled rice with veggies. That's exactly how we do. Sometimes we add some salt in it.
