Bangladesh Buses Set on Fire in Protest of 'Allah' Removal...

Dhaka, July 2 (bdnews24.com) – Two passenger-packed local buses have been set on fire in Kalyanpur and Mirpur areas of the city.

However, there were no reports of casualties.

It is believed the two buses were set ablaze in support of the Sunday's proposed hartal called by the Islami Andolon Bangladesh in the capital to protest removal of the words 'Absolute Faith and Trust in Allah' from the constitution. But there was no official confirmation.

In Mirpur, the incident took place at Rokeya Sarani in Shewrapara on Saturday around 4:15pm.

Sub-inspector Shariful Islam of the Kafrul Police Station told bdnews24.com that the bus was going to Farmgate from Mirpur. All the passengers managed to get safely out of the bus following the blaze.

The police officer added, "We are trying to find out whether the fire took place due to some mechanical fault or it was set ablaze."

Another bus of Duldul Paribahan was set on fire in front of Khaleq Enterprise in Kalyanpur around 6:30pm, Mohammad Farhaduzzaman, a fire service official, told bdnews24.com.

He said that a fire brigade unit brought the fire under control.

Incidentally, the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports is also going to observe a half-day strike on Sunday to protest a deal with US firm ConocoPhillips to extract gas from two deep-sea blocks.
