Satiricle movement to protect marriage by making divorce illegal grows

Man Petitioning for Ballot Initiative in Satirical Effort to Give Gay Marriage Foes their "Comeuppance".

Til death do us part? The vow would really hold true in California if a Sacramento Web designer gets his way.

In a movement that seems ripped from the pages of Comedy Channel writers, John Marcotte wants to put a measure on the ballot next year to ban divorce in California.

The effort is meant to be a satirical statement after California voters outlawed gay marriage in 2008, largely on the argument that a ban is needed to protect the sanctity of traditional marriage. If that's the case, then Marcotte reasons voters should have no problem banning divorce.

"Since California has decided to protect traditional marriage, I think it would be hypocritical of us not to sacrifice some of our own rights to protect traditional marriage even more," the 38-year-old married father of

  • It has a better chance of being voted in by the people than gay marriage does.

    • well yea, now all they need to do is make it illegal for anyone that has had pre-marital sex to get married and make a law that only allows married people to have children and marriage will be extra-protected.

    • Oh, I recognize sarcasm... The problem is that when people espouse such idiotic philosophies in the first place, judging sarcasm becomes a guessing game.

    • Just look at the bible, it's all spelled out in there.

      Death to disobedient children,
      death to adulterers,
death to people who work on the sabbath

      it's all very simple.

  • I have always thought this was a good move to make. All these hypocrites talking about "protecting" marriage...all the while getting divorced, sleeping around, and otherwise destroying the sanctity of marriage themselves.

  • I have no problem with it. You see, unlike most of you morons, I actually knew for a fact that I was marrying the person I wanted to be with for the rest of my life. I didn't get married because all my friends were doing it, or because I got knocked up, or because I wanted a big fancy party. I got married for all the right reasons to someone I was with for 8 years prior to the marriage, which is why 15 years later we are still married and still very happy just being together.
