NORMAN, OK -- An armed robber gets more than he bargained for when he hits a Norman restaurant. He thought he could get away with money, but ended up hogtied by employees. It was just after 10 p.m.Wednesday, a man walked into the Asian Buffet with a gun. What happened next is not likely what he expected.
An employee who has asked that we not use her name says, "I guess from his experience, he just grabs the money and people let him go, but that's not going to happen here, not with me here."
Says she was closing up the restaurant when the man came in with a gun demanding money and threatening her.
She says, "He walked around toward me to the cash register. I grabbed his mask tried to grab it away to see his face."
Surveillance video shows what happened next, the female employee was quickly joined by several other workers.
As the suspect tried to leave, employees wrestled him to the ground, scattering money everywhere.
The suspect fired his gun, shattering a window, but not injuring any employees.
They were eventually able to hogtie the suspect, 29-year-old Eric Zimmerman.
In fact, the video shows workers as they carry him out the door, hand-delivering him to police.
Norman police say these workers are fortunate.
They say you should never fight back.
Zimmerman was untied by police and arrested at the scene.
He was booked into the Cleveland County Jail on complaints of robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
