Rather than spend somewhere around $2000.00 for a prefabricated playground set, I opted to purchase some lumber and build one myself. I copied a couple design elements, bought all the parts separately (including lumber, slide, swings, and attachments), and did the fabrication and construction myself. I saved at least $600 to $700 doing it this way.
The kids absolutely love it, and I got a great feeling of accomplishment from it. I used to build half pipes all the time in my skateboarding days. So I knew this was in me. I did have a couple injuries during the construction, as described in the video. Thanks to my Uncle Kevin, my mom, my wife, and my kids for helping me.
My apologies for some of the text being hard to read, WMM is a crap program, but its free, so I am running with it.

Good job! If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

I agree...awesome job on the playground set for the kids! On a lighter note...fantastic avatar "thebullion24k." I'd love to be right behind that at the moment.

LOL! Hell yes. My strength was launch, and while the knees are not that bad, the ankles are dead.

Never buy the store sets.... all the cheapest crap, the wood cracks, the bolts aren't long enough, and come in one huge bag....
well done, and don't sweat the pressure treated wood part.... it will be fine.... more harmful stuff in the food and water, and hormones in milk...
nice job....

Quite the handy you are. I was going to be like "where are the fucking swings!?" but they popped up right there at the end. Now the little monsters know you can build and pretty soon they're going to want a tree house, or a boxcar.

I wish we had trees old and sturdy enough for a tree house. I want one, forget the kids. :D

That is a great project that will bring the kiddies years of fun and give you the peace of mind that the little ones are at home and not walking the streets being tempted by baddos, I did the same sort of things for my kids and entertained most of their freinds in a safe enviroment, my pleasure was knowing that they were safe at home enjoying themselves. Your kids will love you more for your efforts.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I appreciate it. As mentioned a couple times, I feel great having gone the DIY route. I sat outside for an hour or so just staring at once I was done.

Completely agree. Definitely derive pleasure from it. I took my time and made sure all the bolts were straight, all screws hit, etc. Its a sturdy piece of construction I must say myself.
My friend and I were just saying the other day how much we wish we had a building or maintenance type career sometimes. Skilled labor is called skilled for a reason. Its a form of problem solving that requires skill. Cheers!
