QUINCY, ILL. -- The city of Quincy settled a 2010 lawsuit with a man who became paralyzed from the waist down in a crash involving a Quincy Transit bus.Nicholas Hanson, 29, of New London, Mo. was injured in the Nov. 10, 2010 crash near the intersection of South 36th Street and South Holford Drive.The city agreed to pay $4 million for the injuries Hanson suffered in the crash. The February 2010 lawsuit requested from $3.5 million to $5.5 million in damages.Hanson sued the city, bus driver Becky Dawson, and Taussa Roney, the driver of the vehicle in which Hanson was a passenger."It's a bad situation for not only the the bus driver that didn't want to be involved in an accident that morning, but certainly for our client who wasn't leaving his residence going to Vatterott College that morning thinking he was going to be coming home in a wheelchair," Hanson's attorney, Jim Hansen, said.The lawsuit said that both the bus driver and the driver of the vehicle carrying Hanson were driving too fast for slick road conditions when the collision occurred.

@Romans909 Didn't win, the city settled. I think they should have taken this one to court since they settled for what the plaintiff was asking. I doubt a jury would have awarded them millions from the city, maybe something for partial liability but it would have been the other driver who would have shouldered most of the blame.

The car clearly crossed the line in such a short amount of time that there was no time to react even on a clear day.

@huey2323 When a half-decent lawyer sues they sue EVERYONE involved. The city fucked up awarding this, but maybe the council know this injured kid or something, or maybe there's a lot of community sentiment in his favor. I doubt they would have lost this lawsuit to the tune of $4million but IANAL.

a misjudgment on his part(guy in the wheelchair) you always have to yield to oncoming traffic and proceed when safe, and judging by the video he clearly wasn't paying attention and just turned without looking -- 28mph is unsafe? It's unfortunate that he was paralyzed but gimme a fucking break.
