NEW BEDFORD, Mass. -- A store clerk was injured during a confrontation with an accused robber.
“You got to stand up for the business right?” said Priyank Patel, a store clerk.
Patel fought off the robber armed with a knife inside a New Bedford convenience store.
“He had a big bag with a mask and yellow glasses on and everything. He
came in and asked for money he yelled ‘Money,’” said Patel.
Patel says he was cleaning the store around 5:30 on Monday evening when the suspect burst inside.
“I stood up and I punched him in his eyes or in his glasses so I think
the glass broke in his eye so at that time he tried to punch me again he
missed I went down and back and I punch him again so I punch him
twice,” said Patel.
In the midst of the struggle Patel says he was stabbed.
“I think at that time he stabbed me in my chest and I was about to
punch him back again but he ran, like he just turned around and ran out
without taking anything,” said Patel. “It didn't go that deep in but it
was just a little bit.”
Patel was rushed to the hospital where got four stitches. He was back
at work on Thursday and says he's just thankful the armed robber got
away with nothing.
“If you don't fight back other guys somebody maybe his friend, they're
going to come back again, or same person’s going to come back again with
different outfit and they're going to rob you again,” said Patel.
Police say so far they have made no arrests in the case.
