Small Plane Crashes in Hawthorn CA, 3 Killed.

No Audio. The helicopter news crew zooms in on the crash site and inadvertently captures the arm of a victim. They zoom out quickly after realizing what they were showing on live TV.

This crash hits a little too close to home for me as it was in the parking lot of my work, about 2 hours after I went home. The small plane apparently crashed into a heavily reinforced concrete building and bounced into the adjacent parking lot.

The Hawthorne Municipal airport is just north of the building and they were apparently on an eastward return after taking off to the west.

  • I don't see the arm...but besides that, this is very unfortunate. Good thing there were no homes near by.

  • I lived in Hawthorne for a couple of years and wondered of planes ever crashed out of that small airport. When planes land they go right over the nearby shopping center parking lot on the East or over the houses and small businesses on the West. All small planes in which the slightest gust of wind can throw off I'd assume.

    • In this case the crash was parallel and south to the runway just off of Jack Northrop drive. It looks like they were making a left turn around just after takeoff.

    • Man that sucks. According to other articles I'm reading the plane was owned by "Carpet Pros, a flooring business located at 4537 Artesia Blvd. in Lawndale". Apparently the owners flight instructor and two of his friends were on the plane. RIP to the 3 people.

Remember when Tiger Woods hit a 300 yarder on this runway a couple years back? That was sweet.

  • What's the problem with showing an arm? An arm is an arm, and if one becomes disconnected in an accident, well, that is life. Not much different than a kid plucking the leg off of an insect they have captured to play with.

  • I don't see an arm.
I see a wing, but no arm.
    Any legs?
