V8 Supercar crash test

V8 Supercar crash test, also highlights recent changes to the design of the car, including moving the driver farther toward the center of the car, similar to NASCAR's COT car. Australian innovation at its best. Those that know racing realize the amount of money, time and energy going toward keeping the racer and spectator's safe.

  • Shame to see an Aussie V8 Supercar get smashed up like that, but I was amazed at the underfloor glass footage.

    • @spliffy1966 Most street cars are only crash tested on barriers at about 35-40 mph. This was at about 60 mph. But since energy goes up by the square with velocity there is much much more energy at 60 than 40 mph. It's not a linear relationship like most people think. It only takes a few additional mph to double the energy involved.

Even a 5 star rated road car would look like a death trap in a 60 mph barrier test like this.

That's the reason why a dragster with several thousand horsepower More..

  • i love how these guys buy into the whole "carbon fiber" on everything deal. "Loook at my carbon fiber hood decal!" While still using 4 fucking doors.

    • @absu69 what? Why would a race car use a fake carbon fiber look decal? And they are 4 doors because of the rules for this racing series. It's not a GT racing series. That's why they aren't racing 2 door sports cars. You'd know this if you weren't a moron talking out of your ass...

    • @Epic_Beard_Man sorry man...you use carbon fiber for weight reduction. If they wanted to reduce weight they'd knock off a couple doors and chage to rules. It seemed nascar isn't "Stock car" any reason either. In a bad way.

    • @absu69 Each racing series has certain rules and minimum weights allowed. But exotic materials like carbon fiber are still used because weight can be added back to the car to bring it to the required weight. By placing the weight strategically they can control the weight distribution and center of gravity of the car. That's why carbon fiber is used in a race series where the cars are still required to be relatively heavy.

By saving weight with a carbon fiber hood you can put some ballast dow More..

  • The car looked to fare well, but not too sure about the dummy inside. Looks like they need innovate a better seat belt.

  • I don't like the data they get from this its unreliable.
I think they need to put Gary Busey in the actual car and give him some booze and methamphetamines with the sensors in it and see how it really happens.
