There has been a tragic development in a local missing persons case that dates back to September. The remains of a 12 year old Las Vegas girl have been positively identified in Louisiana.
The mother and her boyfriend are still missing and police say there are no suspects in the case.
The gruesome discovery was made earlier this month by a pair of hunters. What appeared to be human remains have now been identified as those of Lexis Kae Roberts.
The 12 year old student from Las Vegas went by the nickname Lexi and was last seen around Labor Day when she and her mom, Suellen Roberts, took off for Arizona with Thomas Steven Sanders.
The three made it to Bearzona, a wildlife park in Williams, Arizona, but never arrived at their final destination, the Grand Canyon.
Sanders is Suellen’s boyfriend and her family says they know little about him.
Roberts and Sanders struck up a romantic relationship earlier this year while the two worked together at a storage facility on Pecos near Patrick Lane. The manager of that facility refused to give us any comment.
Sanders has a criminal record that involves crimes against juveniles. Police working the case wouldn’t specify beyond that.
Louisiana authorities say there are no official suspects and that together with the FBI, they hope to find the missing mother and her boyfriend, along with the person or persons who left Lexi to die.
Lexi attended Silvestri Junior High School. Police say the car they were travelling in hasn’t been found. It’s a silver 2001 Kia with Nevada license plate 153-UCR.
