Just before classes started on March 18, 2008 morning, two girls faced off in the school’s cafeteria.
While the students fought, another videotaped the whole thing and posted it to the popular website, youtube.com. For only being two minutes long, it seems to go on for an eternity.
For just a moment, it seems like a teacher was able to get the two students under control, but then another trying to separate the fighter winds up getting the worst of it. Then, one of the girls comes back for more. A Duval County District spokesperson told us that this is "not a consistent problem” and “safety is our number one goal.
A concerned parent who watched the video sent us an e-mail specifying her concerns about her children’s wellbeing. "I am scared for myself and my children at this high school, and I just want some safety."
The district says three kids involved in the fight have already been suspended. The student who shot the video is expected to be suspended Thursday.
No one was seriously hurt in the scrap, and so far Ed White school administrators are not planning to add any extra security.
Tensions began building up on Monday when a female student from the school followed her home on her school bus. According to the mother of the student, the same girl confronted her daughter and began fighting. She says her daughter ran to a nearby city bus and begged the driver to lock the door. Police were called but no charges have been filed.
The student says the same student confronted her inside the cafeteria. Instead of fighting, another female stepped in.
The two began throwing fists. At one point, the other students boyfriend stepped in. He says he was kneed in the groin and even punched in the ribs and stomach.
