Israelis entering PA prompt fears of abduction

As civilians, soldiers increasingly enter Palestinian territories, IDF reminds of kidnapping threat -

A relatively quiet period in the Palestinian territories has drawn Israeli civilians and military personnel to do their shopping there again – prompting concerns about potential kidnappings, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Monday.

According to sources in the IDF's Central Command, the number of Israelis entering the West Bank over the past few months has increased dramatically. Over the past six months alone, 31 civilians and 18 career officers entered the Palestinian Authority.

The IDF stressed that despite the impression of safety generated by the release of Gilad Shalit, a soldier who spent five years in Hamas captivity before being freed in a prisoner swap in October – the threat of abduction remains very much real. The army has warned it would harshly penalize any solider entering PA territory.

The IDF launched an advertising campaign on Sunday warning troops to take precautions in order to avoid abductions. The project is one step in multi-year plan formed by the army last year in light of intelligence data indicating planned kidnapping attempts.

The primary concern focuses on soldiers being snatched while hitchhiking. The campaign's posters, which are to be hung in military bases, train stations and on the streets, feature a photo of a soldier held captive, accompanied by a slogan warning troops that if they attempt to a hitch ride, they could get kidnapped. Video clips of similar nature are also to circulate on the web.

"This is the first campaign of it kind that we have launched in many years," IDF Spokesperson Brigadier General Yoav Mordechai said. "Our goal is to instigate change in the soldiers' travel habits."

  • Till 2000-01 there were thousands of civilians from Israel visitng Palestinians towns for shopping, and the economy over there was really excellent.

After the 2000's Intifada broke out this phenomena stopped, even that there were still those who took risks and were visiting Palestinians towns, several of them were exceuted/murdered.

It is good to hear that Israelis are feeling safe again to enter and visit the West Bank, good connections between regular israelis and Palestinians might create a More..

Yes, most of Israelis (i'm not talking now about the settlers) stay completely out of Palestine.

Palestinians also used to arrive by the tens of tousands into Israel till the outbreak of the 2000's Intifada.
      (to work and hang out)

Today the numbers of Palestinians getting inside Israel are much smaller.

Quit with the fairy tale bullshit.

And where in the PA and Hamass Charters does it mention they want peace?

      Learn some history buddy.
No...there has never been a nation or distinct people that were called Palestinians.
Is there a country called Europe? Asia?
Palestine was always just a name for a geographical area....not a people or country!
This land was called Judea for most of its life.
      You know what Judea means???

A distinct Palestinian people does not exist at all. You could just as easily consider all the Israelis, Lebanese and Jordanians as being Palestinian!

Most of the Arabs family names shows clearly they are not from this region?
And Palestine is a modern term that has nothing to do with Muslim Arabs......this land was called Judea for most of its inhabited life!
It was only after all the Arab armies lost the war of aggression they waged on Israel in 67, that they started calling themselve More..
