A Taliban local commander was killed along his four associates while
nine others were captured in a series of the joint operation conducted
by the Afghan and international forces in Kandahar province, police
says.


“The incident occurred in Shahwali Kot district when a group of the
Taliban fighters attacked the Afghan and coalition forces,” Kandahar
police chief, Abdul Razeq told reporters.


“In another operation launched in Kandahar city, nine militants were detained with a number of light and heavy weapons.”


Razeq added that the border police on Wednesday seized a large number of
landmines carried from Pakistan in Spin Boldak district.


He said a tribal elder and four policemen were killed in the current week in different districts.
