MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police are searching for suspects who kidnapped a woman off the street and then sexually assaulted her inside a van last month.
Residents in the neighborhood at East Person and Cooper said they feel safe.
"Actually, it is safe," said resident Tweet Richmond. "It really is safe."
A month ago, police said a woman was kidnapped and raped while she walked in the area.
A man with dreadlocks in a ponytail and a handgun got out of the car and forced the victim inside. There were two other men inside the car.
The victim said the men put an orange rag over her face and all three of them raped her repeatedly in the van.
Police said the men tried to cash her $250 unemployment check, first at the Kroger on Lamar near Airways. Store surveillance caught the silver gray van circling the parking lot. One of the suspects was also captured on video.
The suspects then drove about nine miles to the Z-Market on Perkins Near Cottonwood, where a woman cashed the unemployment check.
