For
those wondering, the trapper only released the wolf because he did not
obtain a tag to legally kill one and his only concern would be suffering
the consequences for poaching. He is no friend of wolves. In his own
words:

tag you cannot have in posession a pelt were not even allowed to skin
them without the DNR being present"
