The Waldo Canyon Fire moves into Colorado Springs and burns several homes in the city. Hundreds of homes (exact number is not yet known) have been lost in this fire. This fire is among many others in the western United States, including five others in Colorado.

  • I have always envied folks who live in these type areas. The scenic beauty is marvelous. But I've always noted how dry the vegetation always seems even in a good year. Humidity is hard to live with but it is effective at holding down this kind of thing. Still it's a real human disaster. Stay strong!

  • Wildfires are, of course, an unstoppable force of nature, nothing you can do about it. Absolutely nothing.

    Strange, though, having put people on the moon, being able to kill people via remote-control drones on the other side of the planet, having enough nuclear weapons to incinerate the planet, building stealth jets invisible to radar... but, right, there is money for that, 700 billion $ for wars overseas and expensive weapon systems, but wildfires? Nope, can't do anything about them, now can y More..

    The unofficial number as of 4 pm (Mountain) there have been 346 homes totally destroyed, not including homes or other structures that may have been partially damaged. Approximately 32,000 people continue to be evacuated from their homes in the area.
