When the stuff is white, it means the body is succesfully fighting off an infection. If you get any other color, you need antibiotics and usually some kind of procedure to prevent a re-occurance or further infection. Specifically, green = pseudomonas, the most common type of hospital acquired post-op infections. Germs are everywhere, and they like to hide on and in us.
