Coinciding with the death of the US ambassador in Libya who was killed in an attack on the embassy, protests erupt in Egypt around the US embassy over which the black flag of Al-Qaeda was raised. The protests were supposedly about an amateur and genuinely offensive film made by a person in the USA, which remained relatively obscure until the misguided protests.
The US administration was quick to use the demands of Arab Spring demonstrators, who were seeking to improve their rights, for US geopolitical considerations. After the quick fall of the Tunisian and Egyptian governments, the US was instrumental in driving Libya and Syria into wars that were far from the aspirations of the people seeking rights. The countries which have suffered Arab Spring revolutions, interventions or conflicts have not seen an improvement for the people of those nations, and many have suffered much more than they did previously.
