AMHERST, Mass. (WGGB) -- Antonio's Pizza has become a fixture on the college scene in Amherst. However, Antonio's workers have a bad taste after getting an apparent prank jammed down their throats.
It all started with a Bob Dylan concert Friday night at the Mullins Center and didn't end until the wee hours of Saturday morning with Antonio's on the wrong end of a $3,900 tab.
Friday night, someone claiming to be part of Bob Dylan's entourage dropped in at Antonio's pizza after hours, ordering 178 extra large gourmet pizzas for the crew. "A gentleman came in about 1:30 a.m. stating that he wanted to feed the entire crew and all the entertainment, asked if we'd stay open late to accommodate them," said Antonio's manager Sean McElligott.
Antonio's did, and the order came to $3,900. Either the guy was flat-out lying or Dylan changed his mind. No one came back to pick up and pay for the pizzas.
Whether it was a prank or an honest mistake, eight Antonio's employees worked until 5:00 a.m., thinking they were preparing a feast for music royalty, but instead wound up eating humble pie and surrounded by enough melted cheese to have them tangled up in goo.
McElligott adds, "It's unfortunate that we had to do that. We like to make our food and sell it, do everything the right way. We assume everybody else does things that way too."
The pizzeria gave away as many of the pies as it could, but had to throw away the rest. Bob Dylan's people tell abc40 and FOX 6 that Dylan and his crew knew nothing of the incident.
Amherst police say they have a guy in mind but figure out if an actual crime had been committed.
