Typical city-government insanity. This building was less than 25 years old. The taxpayers paid to build it, they paid to demolish it, and they are paying the large majority of the cost to build a replacement area - all so a private company (an NBA team) can lease it and make money by charging for admission to its games. Here's a better idea - professional sports teams ought to build their own fucking arenas.

@wilcv1 Thank you, I wish I could vote this up. And the local government took money from a scammy organization like Amway. If they did this sooner they could've made it the Madoff Center.

@wilcv1 Democrat or republican to me it's all the same these days. I see here on LL a bunch of Nazi lovers. Both sides have forgotten the simple principals the rest of the free world used to idolize Americans for. Fucking bickering and arguing like a bunch of little girls. Ohhh you should not occupy this or you should get a job, or you should share your money with me. FUCKING morons. Take back your damn government then bitch about sides. Right now none of you dumb fucks have any control and the More..

@th3illusiveman Because this is America, and we don't like to reuse things, we want new shinny things instead.

What is going to be built there?
It's in the ghetto. Honestly, its a few blocks from the Salvation Army center where all the homeless Alcoholics hang out.
Alcohol destroys people and I see them every day around my office. When I drive to work, I pass a several of them...it's sad.
Note: I work about 8 blocks from the Amway Area and the new Amway Center.

Some kind of multi-use new age bullshit that will sit mostly empty like all the other big, shiny buildings in town. Waste of a perfectly good facility in my opinion

@Flashovr They could have at least made it a homeless shelter or something productive out of it...

@BrassChaser117 It practically was. There is a salvation army shelter just down the block from where it was.

Damn that building was constructed well. 20 seconds of explosions before anything on video shifted. That thing must have supports supporting supports.

It feels satisfying to see a worthless namesake be obliterated. They could have just stripped the amcrap name from the building and donated it to a local school.

Amway . . . exploiting people's ambitions since 1959. Now, maybe they were a legit sales company at one time but are a total brain washing pocket draining scam now.
