Right, all any government has to do is convince the populace that a thing is good for them in order to make new laws, rules and regulations.
And by their very nature laws, rules and regulations are restrictions on behavior.
Its a game of rule by the political elite.
I wish they would just leave us the hell alone.

    • @virago1776 Yeah...the government has no right to tell them what to do with their lifestyles; however, they shouldn't expect the government to take care of them when they are sick because they choose to live the way they did...

We could say the same about people who engage in dangerous sports, or who ride motorcycles among other things.
Those are also matters of choice.
However I'm coming up on 64 years old, have been smoking since I was 20 and am very, very seldom, (In fact almost never) sick.
When I was a kid my cousins and I would run about in the spray behind the mosquito truck and we are mostly still here with none dying of cancer or the multitude of other health problems we are threatened with becaus More..

    • @virago1776 My grandfather died at 94, he will drink a shoot or two every day with his buddy who was 92 when he passed. I guess its genetics....However; everyone has the right to choose a lifestyle that most pleases them, they don't have the right to expect others to foot the bill when they go to the hospital. This is a touchy issue and we could spend the rest of eternity debating about it...

A lot of it is genetics but one thing I've noticed, and I've been deliberately paying attention; I just don't see all those obese children at my grand daughter's school or the malls or anywhere else.
No more in fact than I've ever seen before.
At any rate you are correct, people can debate this forever.
      Cheers.

  • what’s the difference between this and an insurance company asking if you have any pre-existing conditions and what your weight is to give you a higher or lower quote on healthcare?

Primarily because while being grotesquely overweight can cause health problems, being somewhat overweight, or even somewhat obese doesn't necessarily do so.

There are also people who need more salt in their diets than others and a cutback in salt intake can be harmful yet governments and activists constantly call for a decrease in salt for everybody.

  • Being fat should be illegal EVERYWHERE. Fat people are immoral, and are making an immoral choice for being fat. We should ridicule them, beat them with sticks, and fine the shit out of them. We should build fat-camps and have them rounded up and sent there. And if they refuse to lose weight, we toss them into ovens and let their fat fuel the burn. Fat bastards.

  • If you smoke you get penalized by higher health premium, isn't it? So fat people should pay higher health premium. The Japanese are ahead of the world. Which also explained why US is bankrupt.

  • To all those "liberal obamacare" comments: The title is misleading in the first place. Illegal means you can be forced to do what they tell you by means of a law, but as they said in the report, they cannot force the people to follow more healthy food programs, but they encourage and avice them to do so. It's still their own choice. If they wanna be fat, they just go right ahead.

  • This same sort of thing happened on Epsilon9 in the Vega system two hundred thousand years ago.
Governments in the southern hemisphere of that planet decided to force their citizens to lose weight without considering the effects of the lack of a corresponding loss of weight in the population of those in the northern hemisphere.
Needless to say that created an imbalance in overall weight in both hemispheres and the planet began to warble to an increasing degree eventually reaching a point at whic More..

  • Welcome to the world of government health care. The government in Japan can't afford to cover health care costs at the current and projected levels anymore, and so they are increasingly trying to control people's lives. Getting people to slim down and change to healthier diets is a good thing, but since the government runs the health care system and charges companies and individuals premiums, the government has a pretty big stick with which to beat people.

Japan still has the longest life expectancy in the world. The food isn't killing you...yet. Let enough young people eat that crap, and let a generation or two grow up on those fatty diets, and you will start seeing real problems. An 85cm waist is overweight? You don't know what real fat looks like yet.

One good thing, at least, about the fast food places in Japan is that what counts as a "large" in Japan is a "small" in America. Japan has no "super si More..
