@-sloop- Hard to know for sure without us being there Sloop. You think the US govt response to an uprising on american soil would be any more restrained or that the citizens fighting it would not be carrying out extra-judicial killings? Happened in our 'revoution' and in the civil war..can't imagine it would be any better another time around with todays weapons and drones over US skies.

@-sloop- Iran is just waiting to pick up the pieces. They want to be sure that whatever side ends up winning (for them, the preference would be some radical Shiite group) follows their marching orders. Then again, Assad may just outlast the "rebels" and suppress the people and win, holding on to power. Assad saw the vids of Khaddafy spoiling in that meat locker.

Difference between us and them is that Occupiers, Greenies, Tea Partiers etc.,. go home after a protest and plan the next event. If it was Syria, many wouldn't? Our gov. would exhaust every political alternative before citizens armed up in a coup. We are not the same mindset that got us to this point in our history.

Sounds reasonable when you're not in the actual situation yourself. While in shock, most people (who are not thoroughly trained to deal with these things) tend to become passive and unable think clearly.
There are testimonies and tons evidence telling about mass executions of civilians, describing the victims as "passive" or not putting up a fight, even when vastly outnumbering their killers.
No one knows how they will react when facing an imminent or gruesome death.
