Firefighters dramatically rescued one of their own, pulling a smoke-eater in flames from an inferno in a Brooklyn brownstone. Rescue workers raced to the Crown Heights home after the ferocious fire broke out just after 9 a.m. As firefighters searched inside for victims, the top floor of the three-story building on Prospect Place erupted into a fireball, trapping at least one firefighter inside. “He was about to jump out the window,” said neighbor Joseph Ward, 29. Rescue workers extended a ladder to the third floor window. A firefighter at the top of the ladder helped the trapped smoke-eater, flames shooting off his body, crawl out to safety.
