Gripping & Controversial Documentary Shows Assisted Suicide Of Man Who Has Had Enough Of Living With ALS
I personally feel that it's absurd to deny someone the right to end their life in a peaceful and dignified way, if that's what they truly want. It's too bad this man had to travel all the way to Switzerland in order to fulfill his wishes. This is an excerpt from the Frontline documentary 'The Suicidal Tourist'. I saw it when it aired a few years ago and it left quite an impact on me. Dignitas does a great service for those who seek their help. This isn't easy to watch so beware. First Drink - Metoclopramide (antiemetic) Second Drink - 15g Pentobarbital Sodium.

RIP. Nothing wrong with this and I have much respect for him. It's called quality of life. I'd do the same thing. I fear death, but I fear living in hell more.

The mongol horse tribesmen had a great way of saying goodbye especially considering they traveled all their life on the grass steps and only feared thunder ..
"Far plains and clear skies to you"
They would then turn their backs and not watch you depart because to do so was to admit they will never see you again.

I am 71 years old. My greatest fear is not death, it is becoming totally disabled.
The pressure and pain one's family has to deal with as they must adjust their lives to care for the disabled. Most of my life I have tried to be a benefit to my family through works and assistance of one kind or another. It is what has made life meaningful and rewarding to me.
I don't want to have to spend the last part of my life experiencing only pain and suffering.
If I lose the ability to live and serve a More..

Irony moment.
My wife and I spoke about this earlier today, thankfully neither of us are sick.
I think it is a human's right to decide how we live and how we die.
Most of us will go in old age or accidentally, but those of us who will get an incurable sickness deserve to have that choice.
Legal or not; if my wife were sick and she made a knowing request of me and it wasn't a spur of the moment thing I would honor it.
Fuck the law, this is family.

i am in no way judging this man or anyone else, i firmly believe that we are all free agents, vested with the blessing of free will, to 'do what thy wilt'.
personally, for my own self however, i follow the example set for me, and declare, 'your will Father, not mine'.
with that, i believe i am immortal in this world, until the work my Father has set before me is done. it would be arrogant of me to hasten the work.

absolutely eeep, i'm in no way discounting the suffering people experience from a wasting illness. my mom died from a slow malignancy, and although towards the end, it sped up, there was still loads of misery involved. but, peppered throughout the bad there was love, smiles, a laugh here and there. and possibility until there was none.
we all have to make the decision for ourselves, especially as these kinds of services become more and more commonplace.
the funny thing is, is that ev More..

Puts things into perspective.
I'm having this discussion with my grand father right now.
He turned 90 last week.He was very active up to two years ago, golfing, traveling, fishing, when things went downhill.
He was mentioning on his birthday that he had buried his wife and most of the people he has known and figures he's had a good run and is now bored to tears stuck between 4 wall and depressed, and there's nothing I can do for him.
I wish our laws would keep up with the realities of our aging popu More..

@3verygoodreasons Yep, then he'll soon be diagnosed (falsely) with depression and put on a cocktail of psychotropic medications to better help him "cope" with his misery. Depending on the circumstances, some people really do live too long these days. Quality of life means everything.

@philgood63 That's a really good point. I considered the same thing. All together you're looking at at least $10-15,000 to get it done. A total that is unmanageable for many, like you're saying.

That's inexpensive compared to the costs associated with treating the disease. Borrow the $15k.

@tomd You're right. If you could you should. Still not easy for many though. Not to mention, I would imagine that would be a difficult thing to raise money for cause it's relatively taboo and such an act is against everything some people believe in. Which is stupid to me but still an issue for many.

I didn't say it was murder. I'm all for assisted suicide. I was just saying I have seen many deaths on the net, and a shit load of murders, but those didn't get to me like this did. Seeing his wife saying goodbye, the way they were talking about, just the whole thing really got to me.
