LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- A husband and wife wanted for allegedly shooting a deputy and carjacking multiple vehicles were captured on Wednesday near Seattle.

Darnell Washington, 24, and his wife Tania, 25, are accused of shooting an L.A. County sheriff's deputy last month.

The pair were detained around 11 a.m. on Wednesday in King County, Washington. King County Sheriff's deputies found them driving a stolen vehicle, and a pursuit of the vehicle ended in a collision.
The vehicle they were driving belonged to a woman who was stabbed to death on October 5 in Hercules, a city near San Francisco, Q13 FOX News reported.

The alleged crime happened on September 2 outside a convenience store and burger joint on Durfee Avenue and Michael Hunt Drive in South El Monte.

Authorities said a deputy from Temple Station happened to be driving by, spotted a white Ford Explorer and ran the plates.

The SUV came up in the system because it had been involved in a robbery just a few days earlier.

The deputy called for backup and confronted the couple when they exited the store, prompting the gun battle.

"The male suspect got out of the driver's side with a shotgun in his hand," said Capt. Mike Parker, of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. "A deputy involved shooting occurred there."

"The suspects then began to run. A short distance away, a second deputy involved shooting occurred," he said. "That second deputy-involved shooting is where the deputy got hit."

The deputy was airlifted to a hospital and has since been treated and released.

The couple then fled after allegedly carjacking another vehicle.

Washington and his wife later abandoned the stolen vehicle in South Gate before carjacking another vehicle -- a light blue 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager, with the California license plate 3PHK484.

In addition to the recent charges, authorities said they had been looking for the couple since Aug. 28, when Tania allegedly helped her husband escape from San Bernardino County Jail.

He was being held on suspicion of robbery and receiving stolen property.

Darnell Washington is described as a black man about 6 feet 2 inches tall and 197 pounds.

Tania Washington is a black woman about 5 feet 3 inches tall and 130 pounds.

Authorities said that they should be considered armed and dangerous.
