@Clivenio , i was never on boat crew (well maybe once), but I do remember them launching so often in the navy that Id occasionally watch since I was a sea and anchor line captain. my question: for the autorelease, can it still be done manually if it fails? trying to understand the standing orders of captains who like it manually done, I think I remember some captains wanting it to be manual so that there was never an excuse for such an ugly event On that note I remember two department heads fis More..

@TheRealVisionary well i don't know.. the whole time i was watching i was thinking "CUT THE STERN LINE CUT THE STERN LINE!"
id imagine it was difficult.. but it looked to me like the first thing they did was try to hang on for dear life.
my first action probably would have been to unclip or cut the line holding the back of the craft, so that it could " drag" and stay going forward.

@johnmar1 Two problems: No sea painter, and they turned the ship in the wrong direction when the crew went overboard. I don't think the Captain even knew what they were doing.
