Joplin's Damage 1 Week After Catastrophic EF5 Multiple-vortex Tornado (unpublished personal footage)

Yes, I live near Joplin MO. This is footage that I took one week after the tornado struck. Nothing can prepare you for seeing damage like this! I will be the 1st to admit that I pulled over and broke down crying once it sunk in. For me that happened when I thought I was lost while driving a road I had driven for years & realized that's because a 2 blocks 3 story apartment building complex & 90% of the neighborhood was simply gone.

The 2011 Joplin tornado was a catastrophic EF5 multiple-vortex tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri in the late afternoon of Sunday, May 22, 2011. It was part of a larger late-May tornado outbreak sequence and reached a maximum width of nearly 1 mile (1.6 km) during its path through the southern part of the city.[5] It rapidly intensified and tracked eastward across the city, and then continued eastward across Interstate 44 into rural portions of Jasper County and Newton County.[6] This was the third tornado to strike Joplin since May 1971.[7]
A total of 158 people were killed by the tornado and over 1,100 injured. It was the deadliest tornado in America since 1947.

The insurance payout is expected to be $2.2 billion; the highest
insurance payout in Missouri history, higher than the previous record of
$2 billion in the April 10, 2001 hail storm, which is considered the costliest hail storm in history as it swept along the I-70 corridor from Kansas to Illinois.[8] Estimates earlier stated Joplin damage could be $3 billion. By July 15, 2011, there had been 16,656 insurance claims.
