Bob went down, guns blazing still chewing his cheroot...
A PHOTOGRAPHER has captured the last stand of a gunman wanted by US police after a series of bank raids.
The shots show Robert Sylvester, 57, jumping from his vehicle and brandishing his gun before a shootout with officers.
He was eventually gunned down and died hours later in hospital from multiple wounds. The drama unfolded in Normal, Illinois, and was captured on camera by David Proeber, picture editor of the Pantagraph newspaper in central Illinois, who just happened to be passing. Police were involved in a high-speed chase with Sylvester, who was suspected over an earlier armed robbery at a Bloomington currency exchange. Proeber saw him jump from his car with his finger on the trigger of the gun. "His eyes met mine," he has been quoted as saying. "And the next thing I knew, he leaped over the barricade and took a few steps at the car." Police are investigating if Sylvester was behind a series of armed raids in the area.
The Pantagraph said his description matched that of the a man who committed four bank robberies and a currency store hold-up in December. He avoided traffic before being gunned down in the middle of I-55/74 Monday, January 5, 2009
