HIV/AIDS victims 'buried alive'

AN HIV-positive Papua New Guinean woman claims she has seen people with HIV/AIDS buried alive by relatives who could not look after them.

AIDS workers in PNG yesterday said the claims were unconfirmed, but there were cases of mistreatment of HIV-positive people by frightened relatives.

Margaret Marabe told the Post-Courier she saw people with HIV/AIDS buried alive by relatives at Tari in the Southern Highlands.

PNG has the highest incidence of HIV in the Pacific.
