This is a little film made back in 2006 on the day of a Turbobricks club meet, I used to have a Volvo 940, When I got the car I knew little about engines and such ane I learnt a lot about cars by messing with this one, I joined a club called Turbobricks the best Volvo tuning site.
When I got the car it had a blown headgasket and I started learning about cars from that moment on as I repaired and upgraded the things that needed work, over the course of a year I turned the car from an ailing antiques hauler into quite a powerful sleeper.
The cause of the fire was a badly engineered turbo drain hose I had cobbled together from stock parts and silicone hose, the heat from the turbo and exhaust caused the pipe to crisp up and fail allowing oil to get onto the exhaust and eventually causing a small fire which in turn melted the brake fluid reservoir. The return line had been ok up until this day, but I think the prolonged open throttle runs I gave it on this day had got it up to a temperature not reached before.
I kept on driving as I hoped I would be able to deal with the problem when I got back and did not realise it was as serious as it was until I lifted the bonnet (which I later learnt was the wrong thing to do as it allowed more air to the fire)
The fire extinguisher was completely unsuitable for this fire, I might as well have pissed on it, lucky for me there were some ice buckets just around the corner, I ran and grabbed one and threw most of the water over the engine and that sorted it.
This whole event put me off turbo cars while. Though I did have another (fairly unique and properly engineered this time) Volvo 240 turbo for a while I sold that a while back as I'm not into going fast anymore, Slow and steady (and not on fire) wins the race for me now.
The video looks aged now and drags on a bit too long for this ADHD infested world, you might want to skip to the last quarter.

And another one learns the hard way not to use HOSE on the turbo piping!
Next time disconnect the wastegate rod and you'll have room to install the drain pipe correctly with the turbo bolted in.

I was driving my 1992 Toyota Paseo, one day, when it just stopped. It was only a year old, and I was frankly shocked. So I open the hood, and find the battery had shaken loose, shorting the electrode on a metal cross member, which became red hot, which then ignited the battery!. Also the air intake.
I bare handed the flaming battery out of the car, and put out the burning plastic air intake. I then walked over to a Pep Boys, bought a new battery, and continued on my merry way.

A practical farmers-son runaround. 4 sheep in the back, and if you hit a dry-stone wall at 50.....The sheep float.
