New York City is buying one-way plane tickets for homeless families to leave the city.

It's part of a Bloomberg administration program to keep the homeless out of the expensive shelter system, which costs $36,000 a year per family. More than 550 families have left the city since 2007. All it takes is for a relative to agree to take them in.

  • NY State had the largest drop in personal income tax collected than all other 49 states in the last quarter. NYC already has one of the highest tax rates in the country.

    Bloomberg pisses taxpayer money like a drunken lottery winner.

    Watch the justifications,
    "fiscally makes sense because then they will be out of the shelter system which costs $34,000 per family per year in a shelter"

    How about we close the shelter and give them a bus ticket. If they live off of the continent, we air drop them into mexico.

  • The city I live in does this at the municipal level, they offer welfare (now called Ontario works) recipients a one time "buyout" to travel to a different city to settle. Not liberals here though, this is about the most conservative city in Canada...

  • $36,000 is helluva lot of money. Its a testament to the expense of living in such a metropolitan area. There are other places in the country that would only cost a fraction of that.
