Court records reveal details about rapist set to be set free this month
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - One of the 20 inmates in North Carolina who are supposed to be released from life imprisonment at the end of the month is from Mecklenburg County.
WBTV has obtained the arrest warrant that was filed in the Mecklenburg County courthouse in 1975 against Dewey Gray.
According to the document, Gray broke into a woman's northwest Charlotte apartment on the night of Jan. 12, 1975.
The document states that Gray had "...the felonious intent to ravish and carnally know the woman living there."
Once inside, Gray raped, beat and stabbed his victim.
He was once on death row, but soon he will be getting out of prison due to recent reversal of a past decision from the North Carolina Supreme Court.
