  • It's a big enclosed gyrocopter. That's what their prototype was. They are supposed to be the safest thing to fly. The main rotor on top is not powered. The air speed while flying and rear propeller moving air while on the ground make the top rotor spin freely. If the engine fails, the top rotor still spins freely and you slowly glide back down. Google gyrocopter or gyroplane.

    • I don't think its an actual auto gyro. Auto gyro's don't have hover or VTO capability.

I am not sure what "slowed rotor" technology is though.

I do remember reading in the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association)magazine that the test vehicle achieved MU1 for approx. 30 secs before crashing.

Not to belittle their achievement because they were the first to actually make MU1 for any length of time.

  • Can you imagine some woman flying to work and applying her makeup at the same time?
    No thanks.

    • Indeed. It's cool technology, but I don't ever see it becoming common place for private users.

  • Can it glide if the main rotor gives out? Doesn't look like it.
