Safe Mode: On
Retro TV M*A*S*H

This video is part of an ongoing project to build a retrospective TV archive made for the LL community on my Retro TV channel at

http://www.liveleak.com/c/Retro_TV_

Aired from 1972 to 1983 with 251 episodes. What else can I say about MASH? Although it started out with poor ratings it became wildly popular, held the record for most watched episode with something like 125 million people tuning into the final episode. As an aside on that, the NYC public works reported one of the largest surges in water usage that night also. Within three minutes after the show ended something like 77% of New Yorkers had flushed their toilets causing the... ahem, flush hour traffic.

If you're going to buy the series on DVD make sure you get a collection where you can turn off the laugh track. There are shows where a laugh track is cool, generally I don't like them, doesn't work for this show at all IMO.

Yep that's Sorrell Booke better known as Boss Hogg from The Dukes of Hazzard in the gum commercial. Booke also appeared as a guest star on MASH as General Barker in the episodes "Chief Surgeon Who?" and "Requiem for a Lightweight".

  • The music for *MASH* holds memories...
The closing tune always reminded I didn't do my homework and it's bed time......damn you Alan Alda!!

The lyrics to that song are pretty deep. One of the top 10 tv shows imo.

I like the shows instrumental version better than the version with lyrics actually. Such a downer. "Suicide is painless, it brings on many changes..." Yeah like no more breathing for one, WTF lol.

We're watching this series during lunch at work. I'm going to avoid the one where Col Blake dies. I don't want the other guys see me tearing up. It got to me, no really. Old Yeller does too. lol

    • @Rikki_Tikki_Tavi ---what a television document--i was happy to see it first hand--as consistent as this show was--the best episodes were the first few seasons--the ones with wayne rodgers and mclean stevenson--

Neither one liked playing second string to Alda. Too bad it was good chemistry.

I preferred Trapper over Hunnicutt too. But in the end there was something about the cast rotating in and out for whatever reason that just seems to make some sort of sense, given the situational premise of the show. A few characters were there throughout and not all of them were main characters either. If it had been the original cast throughout the series I don't think the show would of been as go More..

  • I admire the premise for your project, but I can find these vids on the internet. I'm not sure that it is appropriate for LiveLeak as it's not breaking news or something that can't be found or permitted elsewhere.

"something that can't be found or permitted elsewhere."

Is that what this place is?

      EVERYTHING belongs on LL!

      just my two cents
      Cheers!

"I admire the premise for your project,"

Thanks for saying! Just phase two of a four maybe five phase, long term project. If it develops according to present plans that is.

"but I can find these vids on the internet."

If you would clarify. You can find this particular Retro TV series elsewhere on the internet? Or you can find old TV shows on the internet?

A metadata search doesn't bring up any of this series anywhere else except LL. If you've seen them elsewhere More..

  • Wow, the ad was amazing. I remember watching MASH every week when I was a little tyke. It affected my politics later when I was able to assimilate it into my way of thought.

  • Cool, but an episode with Col Blake & Trapper would have been more fitting (IMO) than Potter & BJ.

I have a preference for the earlier seasons myself. But there were other factors involved in choosing. This comment is not only posted to you my fellow Rikki, but anyone who is interested.

First was video and sound quality. This is one of the decent copies I have of the intro and end credits.

Another consideration was the fact that many people do prefer the original cast, that makes the first few seasons opening credits more prevalent and easier to find on the net overall. After d More..
