  • i do computer work for an 90 year old vet. he annoys the shit out of me because he shouldn't even own a computer but hes one cool mutha fucka.

he was in the navy and served in the pacific. its amazing listing to his stories like they happened yesterday. he got drafted at 18 and no questions asked fought for his country. all these men have my utmost respect.

  • I've been in the terminal at Reagan when the Honor Flights arrive. It is incredibly moving. Add an occasional band and you're sobbing in a heartbeat. And these men are not expecting what awaits them when they get off the plane. They are bug-eyed to see so many people clapping, crying and smiling. It's very emotional. Last summer I took my dad, who was B-24 tail gunner in the South Pacific, to the WWII Memorial in DC. We hooked up at the memorial with an Honor Flights group who graciously includ More..

  • Had to make the tough choices the past two weeks. My Dad, WWII veteran is now in a nursing home. Hardest thing I ever had to do... :(

  • THAT is why I am SO proud to be an American. There aren't many WWII Veterans still alive...but it is amazingly awesome to see that so many people still show respect for the ones that are left. Would have been awesome to be there...

    • @MatBower my wife had a grand-uncle who served as a waffen SS officer, and another who fought in the woods as a partisan. The first one was lynched on the same day the war ended, the second one survived a concentration camp and died a few years ago. can you imagine the mad stories in this family :) I have only one HUGE regret: not having put them ink on paper. It's a shame that a few school books is all we have to teach the youngsters about what it means to make choices in life, and what it mean More..

    • @bathory72 - yeah, that's why I like the WWII in HD. They found Vets that are still alive and documented their stories. Too bad you didn't put it on paper...but who knew back then. But probably would be a best selling book since you had family on both sides, telling the war from their perspective...yet being relatives. Maybe someone still knows their stories: wife, child, brother/sister.
BTW, best thing to do is record because you will catch everything, including small details that are typically More..
