Originally aired from 1978 to 1979 a total of 24 episodes. There were also three feature length films and many made for TV movies created from combining various episodes that were broadcast in may countries. They featured slightly different story arcs. In one Baltar dies.

There was a massive write in campaign, which was uncommon at that time, when they cancelled the show. The network contacted Larson and they decided to give the people exactly what they didn't want, a cheaper to produce spinoff Galactica 1980, which ran for ten episodes. Many fans don't consider it part of the series.

But hey, the good news is Battlestar is available on DVD! and it is a good collection to own, worth every penny. Or you could borrow it from someone and never give it back. Then when you keep it long enough you can say you did give theirs back and this collection is the one you bought. Works every time.
