@mperkins813 Self propelled howitzer is a tracked howitzer,similar to a tank. A tank fires directly at a target,while a howitzer lobs a projectile at much further distances.Field artillery pieces are both tracked vehicles and towed,but primarily towed.
Word of advice...coming from a seasoned cannon cocker,avoid field artillery at all costs when/if joining the military.

@Muscledoctor taken. So the self propelled means its mobile on its own...gotcha. i know the difference bwtween direct and indirext fire....just thought it meant those new shells that have fins and gps guidence

@mperkins813 I'm not sure about the smaller artillery pieces,but I know my 155mm could fire RAP(Rocket Assisted Projectiles) rounds as well as regular shells.
