The Canada First Defence Strategy states that the Canadian Forces will acquire a next-generation fighter capability that will help them carry out their core missions of defending the sovereignty of Canadian and North American airspace through the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and providing Canada with an effective and modern capability for international operations.

Canada will acquire an aircraft fully interoperable with our key allies to effectively conduct joint operations through the North Atlantic Treaty Organiz

  • These overpriced pieces of sh!t are costing our countries our future.
The threat of an enemy attack on our nations is 30 years old.

    Are you kidding me?
Sorry Canad. You got ripped off.

  • ya the jets are pricey but the smart munitions are even more pricey we will have to duct tape the privates to each wing so they can cut the bombs loose and arm them with M4 rifles for strafing

    Posted Jul-23-2010 By

    • Well since the effective killing range of a M4 (C8 in Canada) is only 400m then we are going to have to make sure we teach those pilots to strafe real low.

  • I'm not pro war or pro military but seeing our fleet of obsolete CF-18 being dismantled one by one to refurbished other CF-18 was pathetic and was breaking my heart. What a shame. Thanks Lockheed and uncle Sam. Our pilots will surely jubilate.
Oh and I just applied to be a sonar technician for the (Royal) **I don't think her majesty Elizabeth the second cares** Canadian Navy. Need to wait for the rest of the process.

  • Yeah, US is buying like 2200 or something like that, we are buying 65. Thank god for NORAD, lol. Then again we could always purchase more and the runner up was the Super Hornet and that doesn't make sense with no aircraft carrier ships. One of my best friend stands a very good chance of being one of the first pilots trained on it, he just has to undergo more training on the Harvard 2 (American Beechcraft T-6 Texan II) and then the Hawk training jet.

  • Think of the millions this aircraft is going to save not having to build those super carriers anymore.

  • The buzz is that it has too short a range is too heavy and can't carry a useful payload.
    Oh and it's very expensive.
It is anticipated that alot of the existing orders will be cut heavily or cancelled

    • i know those jets will be usefull, but as a canadian i would like to see our gouvernement spending more money on drones since the cost would be much MUCH lower and ....its the future of battlefields....drones and unmanned machines ftw.

    • You'll see a lot more drone tech coming...these planes will probably be the last manned fighters in production for the Western forces.

    • consider that UAV already have bombs on the larger predators (the larger version of the UAV) that jdam a target, i tend to agree, although optics would have to be improved, look at it this way, the faster we get unmanned drones working for us, the sooner we get a AI to kill us all :)

  • Well I think the Canucks will get them cheaper, if they haggle as the UK is cutting back on the number of them it ordered from US as basically they are over-priced and the US again is refusing the UK rights on the stealth technology so much for the "special relationship" it has always come at an inflated price.
UK was to build two "Super" aircraft carriers -the most advanced yet in the world but I guess that will be cut back to one and then rented out to our "friends&qu More..

First it was those 2 fucking WW2 era Desiel Subs that we bought at bargain bin prices from the UK, oh btw one guy died in one of them due to a huge electrical fire.

Now this? Who knows what else. Peter Mackay, our "Defense Minister" hasn't served a day in the military in his life. How could he possibly know whats best for defense?

you get better value and shit that wont jam or break down the second you fire it.

  • Useless costly machine wich will end up like the f-18...... bad maintenance and barely a dozens capable of flying.......

    fucking useless waste of money

the f-35 is an aircraft made for modern aerial warfare...... We are in a guerilla fighting age......... COMPLETLY FUCKING USELESS WASTE OF MY FUCKING MONEY

    • The F-35 Lightning 2, is also known as the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) It is designed to be a better bomb truck. Hence the word Strike in its name. Air to air combat is not the primary function of this aircraft. That role is taken care of by the F-22 Raptor.

The F-35 is the aircraft that will be providing air support for our ground troops for the next couple of decades. It is exactly the aircraft we need for the type of conflicts we are likely to be involved in for the near future.

  • I like jets and military but this jet is far more money than what it is worth.... not a good spending of money.

You have got many jets I see on a daily basis, that are almost identical to these new jets... the only good advancement to these is their increased stealth.

---the "hover" serves ZERO purpose as you cannot hover and then take off. You can hover, and just hover back down.... how fucking useless and misleading.

I have yet to see a video of the F-35 hovering and then taking o More..

    • It wasnt meant to hover than take off. Its a STOVL(Short TakeOff Vertical Landing). Not an VTOL(Vertical TakeOff Landing). I think its too powerfull to transition from a hover too flight. Seems only slower planes can do it. Im no pilot or physics major though.

    • Oh and VTOL jets are big slow and cant carry shit for payload. This thing is a powerhouse.

    • There is a wealth of information about the F-35 out there on the internet. Do some research and you will learn why this aircraft is different than all the other aircraft out there. It is much more going for it than just an increase in stealth.

The F-35B is actually a Short Take Off Vertical Landing (STOVL) aircraft. It is not intended to make vertical takeoffs with a combat load. Watch the first video linked below, it tells the story better than I can.

  • Last i heard the JSF was up for discussion of being scraped do to cost.

The only good thing about the JSF is the Pilots helmet display capabilities.

Australia did a test last year with this jet against Russia and China's 4 generation fighters. And it go ass whooped. Even when it was supported by the super hornet and F-22 it came out bad.

You cant listen to Americans when it comes to its capabilities. The majority of Americans believe the JSF is more stealthy than the F-22.

  • EF Typhoon is a better deal in the long term and technologically more advanced than the F35, apart from frontal stealth. BAe technology is just above and beyond.
