  • dude,, All you got to do is put the lid back on the tank!

    done!

No No - I'm just kidding,, you need to start in the basement and trace the water pipe.

You will need to have a hack saw and start chopping at the main shut-off valve... Don't chop on the house side of the valve - you MUST chop on the street side of that valve to get it right.

Once you've done that, you may put a new toilet in,,, Which means your current toilet is shit. time for new.

Good luck - have your camera ready and mak More..

  • Go to your nearest Menards/Fleet farm/Lowes/Home depot/walmart:
and just buy a new set of those valves, $15 - $20 tops! comes as a kit and you get everything from the valves to the gaskets to the rings.

turn off water under the tank. remove old malfunctioning valves, tubes and whatever. put in new stuff. done. turn water back on...good to go.

time to remove old and install new:
for pros - 10 mins tops
for joes - maybe 20 mins

    tools needed:
    plumbing wrench / pipe wrench

  • You need a toilet rebuild kit.
It's not weird at all, just old worn out shit.
I would also get tank bolts and a new seal.
Take the tank off after using a wet/dry vac to get the water out and replace all the parts per instructions.
I am a remodeling carpenter and have been doing this shit over 25 years.
If you are even a bit handy and can follow directions it should be no problem.
If not I charge $5000 an hour plus travel expenses.

    • @myclips I would also suggest you buy the best of everything you can afford.
If you do it all right the first time you will have no worries for years to come.
If you cheap out you will be doing it so often you will throw the instructions away before you do anything else.
      My honest advice??????
      Remove the entire toilet.
Take it outside and hose it and clean it good.
Scrape off the remnants of the old wax ring and inspect the floor.
At this point I would replace the flooring because there will nev More..

  • $10-$15 replacement for entire valve and float at Lowes or Home Depot.

  • Cheap internal parts. Not to mention you are completely missing the tube that fills through the center pipe. Go to you local hardware store an by a new fill-tower/float mechanism and it will install in less than 5 minutes. Just remember to turn the water supply off and then use vice-grips or medium channel locks to gently loosen and tighten the plastic nut under the tank.

Oh, I used to be a plumber journeyman.

  • Try tightening the black plastic screw on the top of the inlet tower.

If that fails get a new inlet device like SpeedyDemon advises.

  • Go to your local Home Depot / Lowes and ask for a new Fluid Master for your toilet tank. It's an easy fix and can be done with a pair of pliers and a sponge to soak up the spare water. The kit runs from about 15-20 dollars. Make sure to shut the water source off that is near the base of the toilet. For specific instructions go to youtube and type in "changing fluid master in toilet tank"

  • install a new fill valve

  • You need to replace the valve assembly that the float is attached to. It's probably just a leaky gasket, and easily repaired, but I'm not sure where to find parts kits. If you're creative and somewhat mechanically inclined, you can buy sheets of gasket material that you can cut your own gasket from, or use Permatex or any other type of silicone caulking. Don't just apply it to the leak but actually take the assembly off, take it apart, examine the gasket and replace and repair and necessary. If More..
