I feel sorry for Bismarks crew because it must have been absolutely terrifying being shelled by multiple warships for such a long time.Yes i know they were the enemy at the time,but you cant help feeling empathy for a fellow human being in such a frightening enviroment fighting a war they likely had no intrest in ever starting.

@Zeb
tend to agree on the sea there is honor among fighters and very little civilians are killed compare to ground wars.Dignify war but brutal where if your sunk %90 of the time there is no rescue.

Amazing story. The fact that the Bismarck was only 9 days at sea before being sunk is a credit to the British Navy's skills and use of the firepower of her ships.

@Triode It's also a credit to the imbecile captain who, against orders, decided to go to France on it's first open sea test run. If he'd done as he was ordered the problem with the rudder may have been discovered and redesigned back at the shipyard. As it turned out the Bismark was left as a virtual sitting duck after the aerial torpedo strike.

So true.

The only battleship bigger and badder than this was the Japanese battleship Yamato and she was only sunk because Japan had no choice and send her out for a final battle with the US with little or no escort and using her as suicide mission to support Japan last stand in WWII in the Pacific.

It's a good think for the captain he went down with the ship. If Hitler had have gotten him alive he would have had serious problems.

Huh?!
Do not steal.
Do not covet.
Do not murder.
The Commandments are proofs of God.
Wars are proof that men are arrogant, disobedient, and ungrateful.
