NYPD officers shot and killed a dog allegedly guarding its passed-out owner on 14th Street and Second Avenue Monday afternoon.
Gothamist reports officers attempted to approach a man who was unconscious on the ground, when the dog "lunged" at police. [url=https://twitter.com/Ben_Jata/status/235112311537414145]A witness at the scene tweeted the owner was "doped out."[/url]
Famed chef Eddie Huang, whose restaurant BaoHaus is located at 238
East 14th Street, tweeted a photo of the incident with the message, "Pigs shot a dog and let it die slow."

There are very few instances that I have witnessed that have actually warranted an officer to defend himself by shooting a dog. Most of the time it's just some pussy cop who would rather shoot the dog dead than have to actually restrain it like they would a person.

First, you "mean minutes, if not seconds."
But there is no significant animal control in Manhattan. If here was, and it was more than running distance, it would take 15 if not 45 minutes or more to get through traffic to arrive.
In that time, the busted guy could have croaked.

Only an idiot would approach a powerful dog the way he did.
He should have called animal control the second he assessed the situation.

its a shame about the dog, but the cops had to investigate the owner layed out. (he could have had a heart attack) any blame should go to the owner for being doped out and leaving the dog alone.
