KARACHI: A man surrendered himself after killing his elderly sister on the pretext of honour killing.
Elahi Bux, 45, surrendered himself after axing to death his 60-year-old sister, Shehla Bibi, at his house located in Sector 15, Mehran Town, within the jurisdiction of Korangi Industrial Area Police Station.
Confessing to the crime, the accused alleged that his sister had illicit relations with a landlord of Larkana. According to SHO Ismail Lashari, Bux only dealt one swift blow to the victim’s head and when her screams attracted the neighbours, rather than fleeing, Bux waited for the police to arrive. The police have registered a case on behalf of the victim’s son.
However, according to family sources, Bux was in financial debt of the landlord and as he could not repay the money, he had married his daughter to the landlord. However, now the landlord wanted to marry Shehla Bibi, therefore, Bux thought it best to kill her rather than stain the family’s honour. The deceased was a widowed mother of five children.
Newborn found dead: A newborn boy was found dead within the jurisdiction of Aziz Bhatti Police Station on Sunday.
According to the police, the baby was found from a garbage dump on University Road. The body was shifted to the JPMC for legal formalities, where it was revealed that the baby was around two to three days old.
Would-be suicide bomber identified: The would-be suicide bomber shot dead on Saturday was identified by his family at the Edhi morgue at Sohrab Goth on Sunday.
The 23-year-old deceased was identified as Mohammad Idrees Bajauri, son of Mohammad Ayub Bajauri, by his uncle Adam Khan, who also received the dead body. Gadap Town SP Rao Anwar said that the deceased’s uncle and other relatives saw his picture in the newspapers and came forward to identify him. Khan told Daily Times that the deceased was the eldest of four brothers and was a resident of Bajaur. A bachelor, he had come to Karachi around eight months ago in the hopes of getting a job. He started working at the New Sabzi Mandi as a loader and lived in a small quarter in Jhangal Goth, Gadap Town. “I met Idrees on Saturday morning and we went to work as usual. There was nothing unusual that would show a change in his behaviour,” said Khan. Bajauri’s body will be taken to the Mohmand Agency for burial.
Meanwhile, sources in the police department have said that the deceased had fought alongside the Taliban in Afghanistan and had an affiliation with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The sources also added that Bajauri was a member of TPP’s clandestine group engaged in robberies and kidnappings in the city. It is also being said that Bajauri’s accomplices present in Karachi have kidnapped some influential people and a police search for them is underway. faraz khan
