Oil Exploration off the Shores of Florida - Bill H.R. 3410

H.R. 3410 also known as the Energy Security and Transportation Jobs Act allows for the oil exploration off of the shores of Florida. Never before has this been allowed. And most Floridian's are unaware of it. The last action taken on this Bill was on Feb 9, 2012; at which time it was placed on the Union Calendar, Calendar No. 275. As of today (February 17, 2012), the bill PASSED the House. It's off to the Senate next. As fast as they are trying to push this through, it could be up for a vote as early as Monday, February 20th.
I live in Pensacola, FL, and I've seen the devastation first hand, when an oil spill occurs. When will we learn that oil is not a clean or affordable energy? We live in Florida! We have the sun, water and the wind - why are we not utilizing this natural clean source of energy? Why is it that a representative from the state of Ohio introduced this bill? Who is he? He doesn't even live here! None of the co-sponsors live here! Please, stop this senseless act of deepwater drilling.

Quit buying gasoline. If everyone just quit, then something will happen. Until then, you will end up paying $6.00 a gallon very soon this year, and the money goes out of the country. One billion dollars a day leaves the USA, for oil. Think about it. Do want it here or in Omar's wallet?

Here's a heads up for you Cuba is allowing drilling near Florida's coast. Cuba has three producing offshore oil fields within 5 km of its north coast opposite Florida.

@WoMenHead just wiki'd. wells were drilled exploritory wells from the late 40's through 85', but none proved successful. they were drilled as far as Destin, in the Panhandle. they were also drilled further down the coast, around south Florida. I remember talk of wells back in the 80's, that's why I asked.

fuck oil. The internal combustion engine was patented in the 1800s. We've traveled to the moon, developed nuclear technology, microchips, the internet, and all these wonderful things but yet we still havent found a better way to power ourselves on our daily commute. I call bullshit on this one.
