  • This building should be restored, instead of the local officials built there some sort of supermarket, or resell the land at inflated prices.

  • Its the pandemic poison of corruption - and the effects of the mafia - that makes many Westerners frightened of setting up business there.
I knew a British CEO of a tool manufacturer, who in the 1990s had set up business there. Within a week of starting, mafia thugs burst into his office with machine guns and demanded a quarter of his gross turnover. He refused and got beaten up to within an inch of his life. He had to abort all corporate operations there immediately. The costs of this aborted More..

  • Maybe one of the other LL'ers will know what is going on.
Could just be an old building that some people want to save.
They do that crap here also.
Old and taking up space but some people cry that it is heritage.
Our down town is full of that.
Old falling down buildings that groups piss and moan evrytime they are scheduled to be taken down.

that is what i thought as well, but still the amount of anger these citizens are showing indicates that maybe they were living there.
it could be that they didnt get proper compensation, if at all, or simply didnt agree to let their house be destroyed.

  • Kind of like of what Israel does in occupied Jerusalem, they demolish the arab areas on bogus claims, and rebuild it as jewish-only neighborhoods.
