A former North Carolina Democratic Party staffer was reportedly
sexually harassed by a party official but agreed to keep it quiet after a
payoff.The unidentified worker - whose name, gender and position
within the party is unknown - made a financial settlement with the Democrats
and signed a non-disclosure agreement promising not to mention it.
The agreement has come to light after The Daily Caller
obtained a concerning email chain between state Democratic leaders.
The correspondence indicates that the alleged victim and
the executive director of the state's Democratic Party, Jay Parmley, both
signed non-disclosure agreements after the accusations came to light.
Although Parmley signed the agreement, the identity of
the alleged harasser is unknown - or whether he remains in the party.

The revelations come as an embarrassment to President
Obama's re-election campaign as he deems the state as significant; Charlotte,
North Carolina is the site of this year's Democratic National Convention.
Statehouse candidate Watt Jones wrote to chairman David
Parker that he was concerned at the exodus of staff - and their reasons for

are now related to allegations of harassment, sexual or otherwise, involving

financial settlement, that appears to be short-lived,' Jones wrote.
'With a Democratic Party which is suppose [sic] to be
fighting to defeat Amendment One [describing marriage as between one man and
one woman] on the May 8 ballot, yet we have this in Goodwin House? How does

While he said people had been angered by the harassment,
he went on to express his fears.
'I am being told by several reliable sources that the
Associated Press is itching to get this out. Thankfully, some are trying to
stop it,' he wrote.
'Do we want the Republicans to get this information? They
are also asking questions.'
The emails also indicate in-house 'childish' bickering
among the state's Democratic leaders and their staff.
State Democratic Party spokesman Walton Robinson did not
respond to a request for a comment.
