A firefighter from Massachusetts has been released from the hospital after battling a three-alarm fire yesterday.

The firefighter escaped a burning building through a third-story window, climbing headfirst down a ladder.

He was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation.

The blaze broke out at the Essex Place apartments in Peabody.

The fire forced the evacuation of about two-dozen tenants from two buildings at the complex.
