Well, I’ve looked and looked and looked. I’ve googled, binged, and yahooed til I’m blue in the face. Since yesterday morning I’ve checked the White House website multiple times, I’ve scoured the Ft Hood website multiple times, the Department of Defense website multiple times and gone so far as to go over to the Democratic Underground to try and find some word on a statement from Obama on the Ft Hood Massacre.
Zip, zero, nada, zilch. Not one word.
This is why hearing that the Obamas first stop on their whirlwind tour of Asia was to commemorate the terror victims of the Mumbai Massacre has left me steaming.
Don’t get me wrong. It is right and appropriate for the US President to pay tribute to the Mumbai victims and to speak out about those terrrible acts - but why in the world would a US Commander in Chief completely blow off the Ft Hood terror massacre of US troops on US soil?
It’s just not right.
(Sky News) — Mr Obama’s first engagement of the visit was to view a memorial to the victims of the Mumbai terror attacks two years ago at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.
He spoke to survivors of the attacks and praised the way those affected by the carnage helped each other. He promised to help India in the fight against terrorism and said: “We will never forget.” He also signed a book of condolence for the victims.
But he was criticised for making no reference to India’s traditional foe Pakistan which New Delhi blames for harbouring anti-India militants.
P.S. And about the Muslim terrorists that attacked Mumbai – in Obamaspeak they are simply ‘perpetrators’.
(Note: If anyone finds a statement issued by Obama on the Fort Hood Massacre please put the link in the comments – I would love to be wrong about this.)
