Aired from 1986 to 1991, 5 seasons 45 episodes. Based around a character developed by Paul Reubens. The original Pee-Wee character was geared toward an adult audience, with the making of the HBO special "The Pee-Wee Herman Show". Later it was remade into a kids show that parodied older kids TV shows like Howdy Doody, The Mickey Mouse Club, Rocky and Bullwinkle, but Playhouse was really psychedelic and fast paced. A great show for kids with a short attention span.

A movie directed by Tim Burton was made in 1985 "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure", which was a box office success. Only having cost 6 million to make and taking in over $45 million at theaters. The kids series was then pitched to Reubens as an animated kids show. CBS at that time was losing a lot of young viewers to cable TV stations. Ultimately Reubens gained full creative control of a live action kids series with a very impressive budget of over $330,000 per episode.

The movie was funny, but up until a few weeks ago I hadn't seen the kids show. I've watched a few episodes and I have to say it's really bizarre. The episodes I had of the show were actually sent to me by someone on video tape who wanted the music score isolated and I did it for him, it was some tunes by Danny Elfman. Too bad I missed this show as a kid I probably would have liked it.

There is talk of making another Pee-Wee movie with producer Judd Apatow., it will be casting soon. I really like the Danny Elfman music score in the original movie and the music he did in the TV show, it'd be great to hear him doing the music for another Pee-Wee movie.
