At the opening of their trial on charges of inciting religious hatred, three young women who mocked President Vladimir Putin in a crude song performed on the altar of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior said Monday that they were prepared to take responsibility for "an ethical mistake." But they denied the formal criminal accusations read aloud by prosecutors.
Facing up to seven years in prison if convicted, the three women, members of a punk band called Pussy Riot, said they intended no offense to Orthodox Christians with their profane performance, which they described as a political demonstration.
performace as caught on amateur footage:

I feel sorry for the people to whom the truth doesn't reach, those who still think they're (Pussy Riot) facing trial for demonstrating against putin.
There is a reason why they don't show this video on the news in western media, that's because anyone who watch it will conclue that it REALLY was huliganism.
This anti-Russian propaganda must stop!

@Assyren Yes, what they did had NOTHING to do with Putin. They are just a bunch of ugly Jews being protected by western media Jews.

will Rusia do the right thing and evolve by acquitting them? Or will it continue to roll back to it's 1930's comfort zone?

@BillyBangcock In the 30s it was Russia but the USSR and a lot of people were sentenced for nothing.
These stupid cunts broke the law and you can read the article they violated in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Next time they won't be singing "Holy shit" in churches.

I thought they were accused of steping onto the altar, but we don't see that in the video. You could pretty much expect them to get the full 7-year sentence had they done so, though. I don't think they'll get away with only a fine either, what they did was very stupid even by stupid standards.

@XAMOMH^I Where they're standing is called altar as well, I mean, not the main one, but an altar nevertheless - that's why it's higher than the other floor.
Still, they were chanting "Holy shit" all the time.
It's a crime.

@Oh, dear!
The altar in an orthodox temple is located in a sanctuary, a space always separated from the rest of the building behind a wall with icons.
Chanting crap is blasphemy, not as severe as desecration.
