It was a 'real democracy' if you were white and not kept from voting by force or by the requirement to pay a poll tax, which excluded poor and especially black voters. Schools were segregated in the 50s - with no guarantee that white and black schools got the same amount of money per student.
Of course, we've never pretended to have 'real' democracy, but a representative variation...

Irony abounds in this vid . The ' Freedom Information Network ' using state controlled RT as a valid information outlet . RT running a vid saying AQ is a made up fiction , all the while blameing AQ for terrorism in Chechnya , and the wider Caucasus region .
